You should be able to choose your own senior photographer.
Unfortunately, some high schools don't allow seniors to submit yearbook images from the photographer of their choice. I don't want to let that stand in the way of getting the senior portraits you want.
I hate telling seniors they can't use my photos in the yearbook
Jen and I have had many conversations with parents and seniors who were disappointed to learn that their schools prohibit the ability to use their own photographer for the yearbook.
Your senior high school yearbook is a major milestone, and you ought to have the freedom to choose the photographer that you want.
But the reality is that some schools take that freedom away, and those rules won’t change overnight.
We were stuck in the exact same situation with both of our sons when they graduated.
It’s not fun.
Let me be clear: school photographers aren’t bad and school administrators don’t restrict your choices because they want you to be unhappy.
But that doesn’t change the fact that I don’t agree with schools taking the decision away from parents and seniors.
Book with me anyway — and get a $100 discount
Just because your school won’t let you use the photographer you want doesn’t mean you should give up on having the experience and getting the images you want.
But that can mean more hassle and more cost for you.
That’s why I offer a $100 discount if you’re trapped by a mandatory school photographer and want a separate on-location experience.
My goal is to help you get what you want while protecting your bank account as much as possible.
How to use your senior portrait session with me
If you can’t use me for your official yearbook photo, why do people decide to work with me anyway?
- Just like usual (only more fun). The truth is that most of the images we create during senior portrait sessions get framed or shared with family and friends and never even go in the yearbook. So you can get the mandatory one out of the way and then have fun with us.
- More options. Since you’re not bound by yearbook restrictions, we can can get more creative and come up with unique images that really reflect who you are. No rules about how to crop, what logos can be included, or how you can pose.
- Yearbook ads. Some parents choose to use my images in congratulatory ads celebrating their senior in the yearbook. It’s a creative way to get around some high schools’ rules (and another good use for that $100 discount I offer).
- Specialty sessions. Most mandatory school yearbook photographers don’t give you the ability to include themes related to your own interests, like sports or hobbies. We can showcase the real you in our session.
- Joint senior-family sessions. Some parents choose to combine senior and family portraits. We all know how difficult it is to get teenagers to agree to family photos, so why not check off two boxes at once?
