Why I no longer cover most sub-varsity (JV and middle school) games

I have had a flurry of questions from students and parents about whether I will get to a JV or middle school game.

The short answer is that I have made the difficult decision to only capture sub-varsity games on the rare occasions that I am hired to do so.

This isn’t about money. As many of you know, the vast majority of my game coverage is free (and I don’t have a lot of openings for paid coverage).

Because I have done middle school and JV games in the past, I want to explain why that will no longer be the case.

Since I try to cover as many local varsity teams as possible, there’s obviously a challenge to find time for sub-varsity games.

But there are two more significant driving factors in my decision.

First, I am regularly asked by parents to remove all photos of specific middle school athletes because of bullying that they are receiving over their images.

Second, I often received complaints if I got to some middle school or JV teams and not others — or if I got more of one team than another.

I realize that this decision will disappoint some of you which is why I wanted to be transparent about the reasons for this change.
